    Double

    Glazing

Double glazing is a window with two panes of glass. The primary component of the window is the double-glazed sealed unit, also called an insulated glass unit (IGU), which sits in a frame made from uPVC, aluminium or timber.

IGUs are created with two panes of glass flanking a spacebar, which in turn contains an insulating gas–similar to how a regular sandwich has two slices of bread surrounding various fillings.

Double glazing is effective in room insulation as it retains heat and prevents cold air from coming inside, thus making the room more energy-efficient.

In order to improve energy efficiency, all replacement windows must be double-glazed and C rated. The only exceptions to this rule are if the property is a listed building or in a conservation area.

    How

    It Works

Double glazing is effective in slowing down heat transfer between two different temperature areas by creating an insulating air gap. Two panes of glass are sealed in a unit (IGU) separated by a spacer bar.

The space usually  6-12 mm between the panes creates an air gap. This slows down thermal transfer (hot or cold) by conduction. It doesn’t prevent heat from being lost, but it does delay the movement of heat to reduce how much is lost.

The space between the window panes is too small for air to circulate, which slows down heat transfer.

When you choose us, you’re not just improving your home—you’re contributing to a more sustainable future. We stand by our promise to deliver outstanding services that meet your green home development needs.
